500th Anniversary of the Reformation 1517-2017

On the 31st October 2017 Martin Luther’s recorded posting of the 95 theses on the door of the Wittenberger church castle celebrates its 500th anniversary.  What started in Wittenberg in the 16th century changed Germany and the whole world.

The anniversary year of 2017 sees the staging of several prestigious events dedicated to this influence, including National Special Exhibitions hosted by Lutherstadt Wittenberg and the “Luther Effect”, held at the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin.

In Wittenberg the city of Reformation and the workplace of Martin Luther the focus will be on Martin Luther the man.  “Luther! 95 Treasures – 95 People” presents Martin Luther and his circumstances, his everyday life, how various personalities were influenced by him, both positively and negatively, as well as the age he lived in.

In Berlin “The Luther Effect” tells the story of the global impact on Protestantism and its spiritual, cultural and political interactions.  The exhibition focuses on the Reformation as an important world historical event.
